Landis is a gullible kid from upstate who's taken in by a couple of crooks, thinking that they're going to help him get a barbershop going in the Big Apple. Wrong! Oakman is wonderful as the sleazy, murdering bootlegger who has eyes on Landis' dancehall gal pal Costello, who tries to steer the kid away from the criminal scene.
