Audubon's Quadrupeds: Blacktailed Hare Unisex Arctic FoxNaturalist and painter John James Audubon (1785 1851) is best known for his Birds of America, the double size pages of beautiful ornithological images. Lesser known but equally ambitious is his work The Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America, featuring illustrations of four legged mammals. Begun while working on the Birds, this project of 150 exquisite hand colored lithographic plates took him ten years to complete, from 1839 1849. When the Quadrupeds
